No! I don’t want your tests!!!

So today we met with the genetic specialist. They were super behind schedule or something. Almost an hour late. I was getting ready to just dash.

When we got in the room, the young lady preceded to explain the test we took. Ummmm….I’ve already done all that research. She explained the 23 pairs of chromosomes. Ummmm….we did take biology. *sigh*

We then went through and exercise to draw a family tree of everyone in the family on both sides. I was not expecting that, but it really did not tell us anything we did not already know. Because as wanna be parents, we have considered all these things. What annoyed me was that if they wanted to do this, they should have told me on the phone that they will need my partner to come to. I know Brian’s general family history but it was far easier to have him there. Also, I now many couples that would not have this information about their partner. *sigh* Yes, I was a bit annoyed.

Then they started to offer every single test they could think of in the world. I’m sorry, I don’t know what mutation of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Caroline is carrying or what Brian is carrying but we feel 99% confident that Caroline got it from Brian. My family has no history and its rare in Asians. I took a CF test when I was pregnant with Caroline which came back negative. They tried to tell me that some panels only test for 1 or 2 mutations and that Caroline’s could be from me and that we should really test. We declined.

They offered Brian a test just because there is French Canadian in him while acknowleding that is not likely do to no signs in family history. But they wanted him to take the test anyway. Ummmm…NO.

We left that visit feeling really crappy and like we wasted our time.

Now time for the blood draw. I told the nurse I was a had stick. Thankfully she listened and went and got the nurse from the Quest lab. One stick and done. Now we wait.

I went ahead and pinged Dr. Korotkin to let him know that I did the test as he recommended and asked him to keep an eye on the test. I guess I need to sign a release to get my records open to him.
